We have been selling Christmas products where I work since the first weekend in October....so you'd think I'd be prepared - nope I have absolutely nothing done yet, not even a list has been made. Last week I did some online window shopping for winter coats, this week I want to find the best party dresses for my readers. Gift Ideas......The Makeup Bag

By Elaine Scully Styling

Time to start thinking about picking up some christmas gifts and most importantly time to start dropping a few hints!!! The makeup bag is an item I use at least once everyday.....at the moment I'm using a navy freebie Lancome bag that I've had for an absolute age........so I've been thinking that a quirky, or at the very least cheerful and pretty replacement is a definite item for my christmas wish list.

Today's Retail Therapy....Cape and Boots

By Elaine Scully Styling

I had this weekend off work - It only happens every 3 weeks - 2 days of doing whatever I wish and spending lots of quality time with my family. Had a relaxing night on my purple couch Friday night watching tv. Saturday morning I supported my 12 year old at his soccer match in Tullow. The afternoon was spent with my hubby looking unsuccessfully for a car for me...sadly I think I need a bigger budget but that's not gonna happen. Saturday night myself, hubby and our two sons went to visit my parents, my sister and niece. We had a takeaway together and then watched old videos of when my boys were little. I actually can't remember the last time I laughed so much.........The Royle Family have nothing on us!!! Had a well earned sleep-in this morning, did some housework, went food shopping and then had some alone time in my local shopping centre. I treated myself to a gorgeous cape in Next. It has a really nice pu trim and I thought immediately it would look fab over my black pleather jacket. I love it both closed and open!!

The Cape cost €52 and you can Buy it Here

I also picked up these delicious burgundy chelsea boots in New Look. They only had one size 5 and one size 6 left........with a price tag of just €29.99 I'm not surprised they've sold out. Buy them here

The Winter Coat at ASOS

By Elaine Scully Styling

Sorry guys I'm 24 hours late with this post, when I got home from work last night I had to help my 12 yr old with a Power Point presentation....sometimes I do put family before fashion.....

How could I not choose this embellished collar cover-up?? How classy is this coat, I LOVE it. This black cocoon fit coat costs €213.27 and you can buy it here

This is a more casual style but I love it just as much as the last one. It reminds me of a gorgeous grey duffle I had years and years ago I think it was from Topshop and oh my god I got sooo much wear out of it. This Duffle costs €142.18 and you can buy it here

You can never have too many casual coats, as you get more wear from them. If you don't already own your fair share of parkas then this one is perfect - navy makes a welcome change from the norm of khaki and the black detail just gives it a quirky touch. This cozy coat is reduced from €92.42 to €68.96 and you can buy it here

I'm finishing with a glamorous girlie number.....how pretty is this guys? This is a fab dressy style but I know if this coat belonged to me I'd wear it everyday.....it's just too cute. This punchy pink coat costs €135.07 and you can buy it here

Well that's my four favourite coats from the vast range on ASOS.com I hope you saw something you liked??

The Winter Coat at River Island

By Elaine Scully Styling

Having a day off from work today, and as usual had a few things to run around and sort out in town. While out and about I  really noticed a winter chill..... now that I'm back in the cosy comfort of my home I thought it would be apt to focus my blog this week on The Winter Coat! I've decided each day this week to feature a different online shop showing my faves from their coat collections.

Today my featured shop is River Island......I was in River Island's Carlow Store today in Fairgreen Shopping Centre this morning and spotted at least 3 styles that I'd love for my wardrobe so I felt it only right for River Island to be the first shop that I feature.

I do love a dressy coat - even on the days when you're in your favourite denims and casual top you'll still look stylishly fab!! This piece of beauty costs €134 and you can buy it here

Navy and Black colour block coats are just doing it for me this season. It's always good to accentuate your waste particularly in a bulky jacket, so the belt is a winner. This cosy style costs €113 and you can buy it here

Dark Brown is always a delicious alternative to black and this faux fur lined jacket is definitely one you'll want to wrap up in all winter. This lovely layer costs €113 and you can buy it here

It wouldn't be winter with a faux fur collar....it's always good to find one that's removable offering two looks from one coat. This textured wonder costs €65 and you can buy it here

I would love to have any one of these in my wardrobe. Check back in tomorrow night when I'll be featuring my fave winter coats from Littlewoods Ireland.

How to Tie your Scarf

We all love to accessorise and finish off a look with a scarf. Scarves add colour, print, and trends to the simplest of outfits. Of course at this time of the year, they also offer practical warmth. Scarves allow us to wear our lighter coats for a little bit longer and then when we do need to slip into our warm winter coats they add an extra layer of cosiness and give a fresh look to last years coat. Wearing a scarf this often means we have to get inventive with how we drape them......So here are my 3 favourite ways to wear my scarves.................

Look One - The Basic Knot

Basic Knot Step 1 - Fold your scarf in half and drape the loop over one shoulder

Basic Knot Step 2 - Grab both loose ends and pull them through the loop and now you have the Basic Knot

Look Two - The Fashion Knot - This is my favourite way to wear my scarf at the moment!!

Fashion Knot Step 1 - Fold your scarf in half and drape the loop over one shoulder

Fashion Knot Step 2 - Grab one of the long loose ends and bring it through the loop

Fashion Knot Step 3 - Grab the second loose end and bring it over the loop and then pull it down through the loop. You now have the Fashion Knot. You can tighten the knot or loosen it to create different effects

Look 3 - The Double Drape

Double Drape Step 1 - For this style don't fold the scarf in half. Simply drape the full length around you neck but leave one side longer than the other

Double Drape Step 2 - Take the long end and wrap it right around your neck until you have the end back at the front where you started

Double Drape Step 3 - taking one end at a time pull them through the draped part at the front of your neck. You now have a Double Draped Scarf

Now you know how to wear a Scarf, why not treat yourself to a new one. Here are my faves online right now

SFX Makeup Workshop: Life-casting. Day 1

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow

So today was the first day of our 4 day workshop on SFX Life-casting, led by David Cullen, aka Evil Chimp FX, based here in Carlow.
Today David demonstrated the life-casting on model Suzanne Moran, and we each then went through the process with our partners.
The end-game is to have a life cast of each of our heads, and we can then create all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures on our own faces whenever we like, or make simple generic molds like vampire foreheads, cheek-bones, etc.

For the workshop we will be creating Zombie-like creatures, monsters, and all sorts of "undead" which we will use in a photo-shoot next Monday, to capture our work... then we can use our creations in the upcoming Zombie Walk for Eigse Festival, in Carlow on October 26th.

My look, which I will create and apply on fellow makeup artist Debbie Mac Donald (Deb FX Makeup) will be based on "Ice Queen", a character from a low budget 2005 straight-to-video horror flop. Debbie and I have worked on several projects for David before so we jumped at the chance to attend this exciting workshop.

Ice Queen 2005

So Day 1 involved us each "life-casting" our partners. Lots of fun and mess!

Some pics of the process...more to follow

Also attending the workshop are a great bunch of artists coming from various creative professions, as well as makeup backgrounds. Attending the workshop are: Debbie Mac Donald, Eamonn Elders, Yvonne Scanlon Bridges, Michelle Hoare, Kelly Brennan, Tee Elliot and Dawn O' Donaghue.
I'll post up lots more photos of everyone's work in the upcoming stages.
Until then...

Hayden's baby glow

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow

Awww! Look at gorgeous Hayden Panettiere looking radiant and showing her baby bump so elegantly at the recent Emmy awards! To replicate the "glow" (without help from baby!) try mixing a little highlighter, such as Benefit Highbeam in with your foundation x
