My Favourite Red Lippies for Xmas!

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow

So it's that time of year again... when we brave the red lippie look! Some of us wouldn't dream of wearing red throughout the year, then all of a sudden it comes out of the bag for the Christmas Party season!

Here are a few of my favourite reds....

Clarins Rouge Prodige:
I find the clarins lippies very moisturisng and comfortable to wear. The colour below is Red Prodige, priced at €21

L'Oreal Infallible Rouge
Á la Jennifer Lopez, who wears Bold Bordeaux. My sister swears by the L'Oreal lipstick range for comfort and long-lasting. A great budget buy at €12!

Lancome L'Absolu Rouge
This is the one I use in my professional kit. Great for lasting and a fantastic range of colours. It costs €26, which is a little pricey but well worth it.

MAC Viva Glam
Middle of the road pricing, at €19 for a tube. As always MAC offer a great range of colours and there will definately be one to suit you.

TOP TIP: If you are not used to wearing red, try dabbing a little onto your lips with your finger for a more subtle look, until you get used to the colour.

Give it a try!

Winter Trends at Fairgreen Shopping Centre

Another one of my shoots for Fairgreen Shopping Centre which was featured in my local paper - the Carlow Nationalist!

A new season, a new excuse to shop! Pin pointing the must have trends can be exhausting. Rather than investing in complete on-trend looks my biggest tip is to break it down into clever items that will mix with your clothes. PU leather is everywhere right now but is it a leather jacket, trousers or skirt that will add value to your wardrobe? How about a statement coat, eye-catching print or striking accessories? After all, shopping is about filling the gaps in your wardrobe. Guys, girls love to see you’ve put in effort. A simple trick is to layer! Don’t just wear a shirt - layer a tee underneath or grab an outfit finishing blazer.

Coat €69.95, Trousers €39.95, Neckpiece €26.95, Vila. Creepers €25, Barratts

Top €19.95, Skirt €39.95, Bag €39.95, Vero Moda, Shoes from Barratts

Jacket €149, shirt €49.90, Chinos €69.90, Jumper €59.90 and shoes, Best Menswear

Jumper €12, Shirt €15, Chinos €15, Shoes €10, Heatons

Love Layers

A temperature drop can only mean one thing – get layering ladies! And a new coat is the perfect treat, as it’s the one piece of clothing you’ll be most seen in, make sure you fall in love before you splurge. Bagged yourself some burgundy yet? Well it is the ‘IT’ hue this season. A new top is the most purse friendly way of adding this trend to your closet. But before you hit the shops take note; outerwear, footwear and tops are the key purchases to update your wardrobe for Winter.

Boucle Coat €89.95, Shirt €12.95, Top €21.95, Denims €34.95, Necklaces from €19.95 all from Only. Boots €60, Barratts. All available in Fairgreen Shopping Centre Carlow

A couple of behind the scene pics..............

Delighted to have this shoot featured in my local paper - Carlow Nationalist :-)

All "Twerking" aside...I LOVE Mileys new face!

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty

So poor Miley's been getting a lot of bad publicity lately. Be it for her choice of clothing (or lack thereof!), her skinny-and-getting-skinnier frame, or for her behaviour on-stage and off, she just can't seem to get it right these days.

Miley's new look

Well, at least one thing she has gotton so very right is her makeup, so let's give her some credit. Miley's makeup artist Denika Bedrossian has taken Miley's look from a very "teenage prom" look to a far more sophisticated glamorous look.

To get Mileys look, wear a light-reflecting dewy foundation for a natural skin glow (try Lancome Teint Miracle). For daytime, like the picture on the right, keep eye makeup to a minimum. Miley has lash extensions to enhance her eyes without much makeup. Team this with a nude glossy lip.
For her more glam look, apply a creamy textured red lipstick (try Clarins Joli Rouge in Clarins Red), and plenty of eyeliner for a more sultry eye.

Miley before the makeover.

So Miley, here's my advice, sack the stylist (sorry Lisa Katnic, but I'm not loving your "ratchet" looks!) and you'll be well on your way... I think Elaine might agree with me on this one!

Do you agree with me readers??

Big Eyebrows: They're Here to Stay!

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow

Ladies, the "big brow" trend isn't going anywhere, so if you are considering growing out your brows now is the time!
Here is my guide to getting big beautiful brows, and all the cheats...

1. Treat your Brows like you Treat your Hair.

How can you expect to have full healthy brows if you you don't treat them with care? Condition your eyebrows with a good quality brow conditioning product.

Splurge: Talika Eyebrow Lipocils

Saver: Ardell Lash and Brow Growth Accelerator

2. Professional Shaping.

Shaping the brow properly to suit your face shape and natural brow shape is very important. Your brow technician will leave the hairs in place that are needed to thicken up brows, and merely tidy up the brow and re-shape as necessary. It may take a couple of visits before they are at their best.
Book in with an experienced brow expert, such as me ;-)  and have your brows professionally shaped and tidied, and tinted if necessary.

Splurge: HD Brows brand (see HD Brow website)
Saver: A good quality Eyebrow Tint & Shape & Tidy (the very same thing, but emphasis on "good" as there are poor quality products & services out there also!)

3. Big Doesn't Have to Mean Bushy.

Keep your brows well groomed, and hold in place with a brow gel  by combing through and shaping, or use hairspray sprayed directly onto a clean mascara wand and brushed through brows- cheap and cheerful!

Splurge: Benefit Speedbrow

Saver: Ardell Brow Sclupting Gel

4. Fill in the Gaps.

Even after tinting you may have some gaps that need to be filled in. Use brow pencil, or a powder in the correct colour. Blend in by brushing through gently with a brow brush.

5. Highlight the brow bone

Do this discreetly, nothing shimmery or shiny. Use a light creamy textured brow highlighter such as Benefit High Brow (or a light coloured concealer) to highlight the brow bone and give a great brow shape, also giving coverage to small hairs while growing out the brows.

Try this out, and leave a comment or tick a box if you found this helpful.
