Thank You Crumlin, Love Mia

By Elaine Scully Styling

I have been up and down to Crumlin every second day for the past couple of weeks with my son. This morning while sitting in the physio waiting room I received an invitation to 11 year old Mia Keaveney's debut fashion show 'Thank You Crumlin, Love Mia' in association with Fastway Couriers.

Mia Keaveney

Mia was born in China and, as a baby had an accident that left her badly burned. In 2002, Mia came to live with her Irish family in Dublin; it was at this stage that Mia began treatment in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. At the launch of this event Mia said "I love to draw and sketch fashion designs, especially when I was undergoing treatment in hospital, a friend of my mums sent them to fashion designer John Rocha who then invited me to come meet him, it was a dream come true." This meeting gave Mia the encouragement to use her drawings to do something positive and she came up with the idea ‘Thank You Crumlin, Love Mia’ as a way to do what she loved but also to show her appreciation for the support she received in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.

Peter O'Brien and Mia Keaveney

This is a fantastic cause - I have nothing but praise for all the staff I have dealt with in Crumlin in recent weeks and in the past number of years - and it is sure to be an amazing event! Joe Quinsey, CEO of the Children’s Medical & Research Foundation, said “We are extremely honoured that Mia has chosen to thank us with such a special event. By supporting Mia’s special event, you’re supporting Ireland’s sickest children and their families.”

The event details are as follows;

This Summer - first Buy your Bikini...then Book your Holiday

By Elaine Scully Styling

As I type this the sun is splitting the sky, but who knows how long that will last....a day, a morning, more likely another 5 minutes! So if you're considering booking a sunny holiday outta here, A|wear may have an offer sweet enough to change that consideration to a confirmation. They have launched their HighSummer Hot Shop Collection 2012 in partnership with Sunway Holidays - which means for us - spend €50 in any A|wear store and you will receive a €100 voucher for a Sunway Holiday :o

Normally when we book our holiday, to get straight into the holiday mood we race to the nearest store to pick up a new bikini (vision of novel in one hand and cocktail in the other). Girls, this Summer we must switch it around and splurge on the bikini first, then voucher in hand leg it to your nearest travel agent. I have my eye on the below bikini which I spotted last week in my local A|wear in Carlow. Lemons may be a bitter fruit but it does make for a sweet print (sorry). If you are lacking cleavage the frills on this bikini add some wanted volume. Also available in A|wear is a matching kaftan (shown below).

Laurey lemon bikini, €30, A|wear
Black Elle lemon kaftan, €25, A|wear

Personally I prefer not to match my coverups with my bikini and would usually choose a dress something kinda like these;

Mela tribal sun dress, €26, A|wear

Mela strip maxi dress, €29, A|wear

Crazy Weather = Skin Problems???

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow.

March  May Many Weathers!! So it's sunny one minute, raining (and even hail!) the next, not to mention the temperamental blustery wind. This changeable weather can be very harsh on our skin, leaving it feeling dry in patches (lacking in oil), dehydrated (lacking in water) and more sensitive than usual. Have any of you noticed your skin feeling a little under the weather lately??

When the weather is changeable like this, we really need to take a little extra care of our skin to prevent the above symptoms. Don't be tempted to over-scrub the dry skin patches, as this may cause sensitivity.
  • Gently exfolliate the skin using small circular movements (see my tips on exfolliation in my Beauty Tips Folder,) once or twice a week - that's enough.
  • Use a nourishing face mask once or twice a week, such as Clarins Hydra Quench Cream Mask €36, Liz Earle Intensive Nourishing Treatment Mask €17, or for a budget busting recipe see below!
  • Use an extra rich night cream at night to rejuvenate and repair the skin. Try Lancome Genefique Repair Nuit €70, or The Body Shop Aloe Soothing Night Cream €20
  • You can also try using almond oil as a deep moisturiser or mask every few days.

Fo instant results, if necessary or just for a wee treat, book yourself in for a relaxing facial (with me for only €28- cheeky!!) to deeply cleanse, soothe, calm and nourish your skin.

Budget Mask Recipe: Mix half and avocado, half a banana, a spoon of natural yoghurt and a sprinkle of olive oil in a bowl. Spread over clean skin and leave for 15 mins. Rinse off, and then apply your night cream.

Your skin will be back to itself in no time!
Enjoy,
Anne xxx

Miss Ireland.....Behind the Scenes

By Elaine Scully Styling

A new Miss Ireland was crowned last weekend and has since had to step down due to age issues. Most blogs and websites have been covering all the celebrations, scandals, crowning and re-crowning. You may be surprised to read, but this isn't another one of those posts - this is a post about the now former Miss Ireland, Holly Carpenter. Back in January I styled Holly for a shoot for fashion photographer Maria McGrail, I have posted the actual shots to my Gallery here on our blog (http://lipstickshoesandparties.blogspot.com/p/elaines-gallery.html) and now I want to share with you some fun behind the scenes shots from what was a fantastic day. It was so nice to meet Holly and I know there will be more BIG things to come for this stunning girl.
