Baby soft skin for everyone, in 3 easy steps!

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow

So we all want skin as smooth as a baby's bum, right? Skin that's smooth to touch, without rough, dry patches......Here's how!

Baby soft skin - head to toe!

Step 1: Exfolliate!!! Use a store-bought, or home-made (see recipe below) body scrub, and apply in the shower. Use small circular strokes, and never scrub too hard, especially on sensitive skin. Exfolliation removes dirt, oil and dead skin cells, leaving the skin much smoother.
Use a seperate exfolliant, (see recipe below), for the delicate skin of the face.

Step 2: Pat dry with a soft towel....never rub or scrub your skin with the towel as this may cause premature ageing of the skin.

Step 3: While still in the steamy bathroom, apply some baby oil, almond or coconut oil all over. This  is the best time to apply as your pores are still open and the oils will be absorbed better. Put a small amount in your palms and rub together to warn up, them spread all over.  The almond or coconut oils can be used on the face also.

It's also important to protect the skin for the sun by wearing SPF when outdoors, this will help to keep the skin hydrated, and prevent premature ageing.

Recipe for home-made face scrub:
In a bowl, mix 2 tbsp oatmeal into a paste with water or honey (add some lemon for oily skin types)
Homemade face scrub

Recipe for home-made body scrub:
Mix one part oil (eg. coconut or almond) to 2 parts soft brown sugar in a bowl. Ordinary white sugar may be a little harsh. Add a drop of your favourite essential oil for a gorgeous smell (eg. lavender)

I hope you have enjoyed my tips and recipes. and please do try this at home!!

Tips and tricks to disguise tummy area

By Elaine Scully Styling

If your problem area when dressing your shape is your tummy, then the key – as with any body issue – is to ignore it i.e. down play it. Select clothes that don’t draw any attention to your tummy. Instead choose dresses or tops that have statement necklines, or eye catching shoulder detail. Choosing jackets with padded shoulders, tops/dresses with cap sleeves or structured sleeves, will broaden your shoulders and at the same time slim your tummy area. Never wear fabrics that will cling to your tummy, you need soft fabric that will float forgivingly over your tum or heavy structured fabric that will support and hold you in.

We’re all experts at answering the question, what don’t you like about your body? It’s time you admit to what you actually like about your body. Could it be your legs? Then wear dresses and skirts above the knee or slip into statement shoes and/or tights. Great boobs then reveal them or at the very least draw attention to them with detail, accessories, print or colour.

The two tone in the following dress works for two reasons - the plain dark navy colour on the lower half elongates and slims your shape, while the lighter colour on the shoulders and sleeves draws the attention upwards and the cap sleeves also broaden your shoulders. The ruching also works in disguising any tummy lumps or bumps.

This next dress, also from Carraig Donn, has a frill around the bust drawing attention to that area. It is an empire line dress (rather than fitted at the waist it is fitted under the bust) with extra forgiving fabric around the tummy. The all over print has a slimming effect and at the same time hides any lumps or bumps.

Jaime la Vie Johanna multi print dress, €69.95, Carraig Donn

When skirt shopping go for A-line styles or styles that become fuller from the hips. Make sure you choose skirts that are flat at the tummy area with no detail or fuss and any fastenings are at the side or back of the skirt – the same rules apply for trousers. I have found two styles both from A|wear's new spring/summer collection and both are instores now.

Black patty Aline mini skirt, €35, A|wear
Evanna pleated contrast skirt, €40, A|wear
Team your skirts and trousers with eyecatching tops.

DKNY Jeans jersey ruffle top, €64.50,

So Fabulous foil print cowl neck top, €35,

My most important tip girls is to move away from hiding your body underneath shapeless styles. You do this thinking it covers your problem areas when in fact it adds pounds to your shape. Bring balance to your shape with my tips above and embrace your body.

Go Green for St. Paddys!! (In style!)

By Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow

No need for Irish flags painted on your cheeks this year ladies! Celebrate St. Patrick's day 2012 in style with a splash of green on your eyes, nails or even funky green lips!

St. Patrick's Day hair and makeup inspiration

For a simple gorgeous green-eyed look (above), just blend green eyeshadow all over the eyelids, using a darker shade in the sockets. Then draw all around the eyes with bright green eye pencil, and smudge some green eyeshadow over it to smooth and blend. For more drama why not add some cute green stick-on jewels (available in most arts & crafts shops)
If you're feeling adventurous why not try some crazy green hairspray (or even just a streak!), available in most joke shops, some Boots, and discount stores.

Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty....Get the (Green) Look!
To achieve funky green lips (neat and tidy!), use your brightest green eyeliner, and line the lips, filling them in too. Then just add some clear or gold lipgloss...and remember to check your teeth!
These looks can be achieved on any budget. Try Catrice (in Penneys and Dunnes Stores) for their range of earthy green eyeshadows and nail polishes that won't break the bank (above). MAC do fantastic green eye pigments and slick kohl pencils (pictured above is MAC Forever Green), and also pictured above is Lancome's ultra long lasting, crease free eyeshadow pallet no.104 - perfect colours for Paddy's Day.

Enjoy experimenting, and Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Mis-matched lingerie

By Elaine Scully Styling

Admit it girls, for the most part we don't wear matching lingerie............good news - in the bedroom this can work to your advantage. Just like balancing your shape with figure flattering clothing, you can also balance your figure when your clothes are off. Achieve this by deciding which of your curves get the most attention by either choosing to wear; an eye catching bra teamed with plain thong/panties; or plain no fuss bra with stop and stare knickers. In other words if you love your boobs, enhance them with print, frills and colour. Prefer your bootie then that's where you place the print.

Check out the fabulous curvy Plus-size model Kate Geraghty in a recent shoot I styled for photographer Maria McGrail, makeup my Alana Witter. All clothes and accessories from Penneys Ireland.

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow

It's time to move on from dull winter skin, and say hello to a dewy fresh face!
Here's how.....

Step 1: First, exfolliate your skin using a gentle polishing face scrub.
Step 2: Give thirsty skin a drink by massaging and tapping in plenty of moisturiser.
Step 3: Mix some highlighting fluid (try Benefit High Beam, Lancome Eclat Miracle, or Clarins Instant Light) with some foundation on the back of your hand, and spread over your skin with fingers, blending well.
Step 4: Pat some cream blusher (or pink lipstick) onto the apples of the cheeks with the fingers.
Step 5: Pat a little extra highlighter onto the cheekbones for extra glow.

Finish the look with a baby pink lipgloss, brow pencil to define the eyebrows, and some mascara.

Dressing in scarf print

By Elaine Scully Styling

D&G for spring/summer 2012 built their complete collection on scarf print, even down to the shoes. The fabrics look and feel luxurious and create a fresh glamorous statement for the holiday season. Accessorise with substantial striking gold jewellery to complete this rich endulgant style!

Click here to view and drool over D&G's complete collection.

Want to get the look without spending a cent? Then get creative when putting together your very own Scarf Print look. My suggestion, take a narrow scarf print headband and re-style your favourite summer shoes. Check out how I gave two of my heels a designer edge............

Love the difference it makes visually plus it gives new lease of life to shoes you've grown tired of.

For those of you who have some spare cash to blow on clothes then here are my 3 favourite ways to get the designer catwalk look on a highstreet budget
