Possess the Pencil Skirt

The pencil skirt is popping up in every store this season - you will find daring prints (tropical, floral, Aztec, stripes...), this seasons hot hues from sorbet shades to black and white. Whether you're looking for a trendsetter or a classic style the pencil skirt promises to hug your figure, it will caress your curves and create a sexy feminine shape even for those with a straight silhouette. Don't fear the pencil skirt! Once you know how to balance your figure you will love the skirts flexibility, add more tailoring for the office, statement accessories and sheer fabrics for sexy Saturday nights, tuck in a cotton tee for everyday wear.

Ok time for some tips to shape your new pencil skirt silhouette. If you are curvier around your hips, thighs and bum then add some volume to your upper half with statement sleeves like the petal sleeve top from Penneys (below). Or try a Chanel inspired cardi with shoulder pads, featuring highly on the highstreet. Straight shaped ladies lacking curves should team up with a structured top boasting spring/summer's favourite detail - the peplum. Check out the red style below from Dunnes Stores or Next's green lace version above. Possess a figure that's heavier on top (large boobs and/or broad shoulders)? then wear a darker colour on top and play with pattern for your skirt. Also look for deep v-necklines which will slim your shoulders and boobs.

What Penneys Love

Over a month ago (1st December) Irish fashion journalists, bloggers, stylists and so on headed to The Art Gallery in The Morrison Hotel for Penneys Spring Summer 2012 collection preview. As usual I arrived through the back door, I seem to have a recurring issue with locating the official entrance to events. On the upside I did get a quick nose at their behind the scenes press call - sorry no pics :( didn't want to attract anymore attention.

Dressed in a warm jacket, woolly snood and chunky tights, definitely helped to add to the enthusiasm of being walked through each of Penneys stories for SS12 - eager to imagine some natural heat and the bearing of tanned flesh in affordable catwalk trends. Overall the mood was fresh, colourful and left me reminiscing Easter Sundays as a child showing off my new Easter outfit in bright spring hues, which were always accessorised with earrings and hair ribbons to match.

As I left (through the front door) I was given a rather large and impressive press book, which page by page shows us what it is that Penneys themselves are Loving for the new season;

Ok that's what Penneys are loving, now here's a collage of some of what I loved at their press preview

If you are a Penneys shopper, which lets face it most of us are, then here are a few items worth keeping an eye out for in your local store this month. All of the following images will be available this month (January).

Do you own a blazer? Every girl (and guy) should have at least one in their possession, whether it ticks a high fashion trend or resists the seasonal changes with its classic cut or colour. The blazer is a wardrobe must; turning day denims into party pieces, tea dresses into office chic or simply smartens up your separates. Plus you'll be pleased to hear there is a blazer out there for everyone. The most important thing when choosing the style for you is to keep your clothes and lifestyle in mind.
