Creative Carlow

By Elaine Scully Styling

Today my handmade accessories went on sale in the Creative Carlow Pop Up Shop (beside Scraggs on Tullow Street) which will be open until Christmas Eve....I'm delighted to be a part of this and have met some amazingly talented crafts people while helping set up the shop. Carlow County Enterprise Board generously funded this project offering an exciting opportunity for myself and other local creatives.

I've been very busy these past few weeks so don't have a huge amount of stock in the shop, hopefully this weekend I might get a chance to make more pieces but here are two pics from my little section.

For a better idea of what my accessories look like check out these shots from my recent photoshoot with the amazing Kath Oniszk Photography - Kath is the only photographer I have modelled for and she makes me feel so comfortable and constantly gives me direction, encouragement and ultimately confidence...Love her. My fabulously glam makeup was applied by my beautiful blogging partner and perfectionist Anne Hutton.....I have never felt so glamorous :)

I will be helping out in the shop whenever I can and plan to take some pics of the other work on sale and will post them here over the next few days.

Enjoy your Friday night!!

This post is long overdue............finally I'm getting around to posting the shots from my shoot with Cork Photographer Shaun Barry. I put a lot of planning into this shoot and it was completely worth every second of it as I was blown away with the results. I will let the shots speak for themselves - the first 2 images are the mood boards I prepared to help the team get into my head and understand my vision for the shoot.

Seven Sexy Celebs: Red Lippie Looks!

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow.

So it's that time of year again, time to get out the red lipstick that is! Red lippie never goes out of style and is a popular winter shade every year. There are more choices in shades and textures on the market now than ever before, and it can be a little confusing.
There's nothing like a bit of colour to brighten up your complexion, and there really is a shade of red out there to suit everybody. Whether your brave enough to go for a bold pop of colour, or you prefer a more demure look, just give it a go!
Here are some of my favourite celebrity red lipstick looks....

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian has ditched the tan for a paler complexion which compliments this look beautifully. She has chosen a blood red, with minimal eyemakeup; just lashings of lashes on top and defined brows.

Tip: A lick of liquid eyeliner on top as well as some falsies will add to the full lash effect.

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett has chosen a bold coral red, which compliments her blonde hair, blue eyes and peachy cheeks.
Her eye makeup is soft and smokey, using browns instead of black/grey tones. Use kohl pencil top and bottom, and smudge it in with some brown eyeshadow on a cotton bud.

Tip: Beware of orangey-toned lip colours if you have yellowness in your teeth - opt for a blueish/pink toned red instead for whiter looking teeth.

Emma Stone

One of my favourite actors at the moment, Emma's auburn hair and Irish colouring makes her a good example for us lassies.
Emma's lip colour is more sheer and natural than Scarlett's, but she also uses the coral/peachy tone to compliment her colouring.

I'm not so sure about the eyeshadow, it's a bit much for my liking but I just love Emma's lips and her glowing complexion!

Katharine Mc Phee

Katharine, star of hit TV show Smash, goes for a soft pinky-toned red, which works great with her lighter hair (she's usually a brunette). The colour lifts her complexion but still looks natural.  Her eye makeup is soft and natural, using greyish brown eyeshadows and blending well.

This is a great colour for those of you who won't brave the full red look.

Tip: If you are not used to wearing red lippie, start with one of the more sheer shades, or a red lipgloss, and work up to a full-on red.
Use your ring finger to dab the colour on for a softer look.

Gwen Stefani
Gwen rarely leaves the house without her red lipstick. She even wears it jogging!
Her Marilyn Monroe inspired look never gets old, and is one of my favourite looks. For this sharp and clean look, keep the skin pale, and wear minimal eye makeup with liquid liner and false lashes on top. Choose a fire-engine red lipstick and add a little gloss.

Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren always looks amazing on the red carpet, and she is fond of her red lippie too.
She has opted for a rustic red here, which warms the complexion.
Her apricot blusher which is great on mature skins, adds a youthful glow.

Tyra Banks

For dark complexions, choose a strong deep red like Tyra. An opaque texture with plenty of coverage is important for this look.
A strong eye works great here too. I would define the brows a little more however.

Tip: a red toned blusher and a little highlighter on the cheekbones really lifts darker complexions.

So there you have it, some of my favourite celebrity red lippe looks.
If you're still unsure about which shade to choose for your colouring, simply hold up each lipstick to your face, look in the mirror and you will instantly see which one makes you look better!

Happy experimenting!

One Dress Three Outfits

By Elaine Scully Styling

Get your clothes working for you.....clothes do not have to be worn as intended. With little or no clothing money in our monthly budgets we need to play around and have fun with our clothes, creating as many different oufits as possible from each item in our wardrobe. No one will ever guess you are wearing the same clothes over and over again. Here are three different ways I wear my navy pleated dress from A|wear http://www.awear.com/dresses/navy-cut-out-detail-sam-dress/invt/10452512navy/

Shape Shopping......Skirts

By Elaine Scully Styling

I've been a little quiet on my blog recently due to being very busy with work. As I'm having a lovely relaxing weekend off I've finally gotten around to writing a new post. As a personal shopper I love finding flattering pieces that will create lots of outfit options for my clients and because I'm at home for the weekent I decided to hit the online shops for on-trend skirts that will balance out the most common body issues.

When it comes to shopping for your shape the key is to bring balance to your figure. For example if you are top heavy (strawberry shape) then add volume and attention to your lower half, at the same time keeping your larger top half streamlined.

Hourglass Figure - your top and bottom half are already balanced so caress your curves and draw attention to your waist

Black laser cut pencil skirt, River Island

Straight Figure - your top and bottom half are balanced but you are lacking feminine curves. This tulip skirt will add shape to your figure and show off your slim waistline

Bronze metallic tulip skirt, €29.99, New Look

Pear Figure - you have a curvier lower half. Slim your shape by wearing darker colours on your bottom half. Avoid adding extra volume in this area but instead look for styles that will skim over your hips. The soft pleating draws the eye downwards having a slimming effect on your hips

Black lace skater mini skirt, €17.99, New Look

Apple Figure - you carry all of your weight on your tummy. Choose skirts with fastenings on the side or back of skirt. Avoid any details on your tummy area. The volume at the hem of the skirt will slim and balance your tummy

Black peplum hem skirt, €40, A|wear

Strawberry Figure - you are larger on your top half. Bring balance by choosing an a-line skirt or a skirt with volume. Avoid pencil skirts unless they have a built in peplum. Select short styles that will show off your slim legs and the print will draw all the attention to your slim lower half

Houndstooth A-line skirt, €18, Heatons

I hope this was helpful! You can contact me by email (elainemscully@gmail.com) if you have any queries on any of my tips here or if there is anything you would like to see featured here on our blog.

Our AWear "Chanel" inspired Shoot: Behind the Scene's

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow

So today I though I'd do a little "behind the scenes" piece on our recent photoshoot here in our hometown of Carlow. On board were photographer Shaun Barry, stylist Elaine Scully (my blogging buddy!) model Suzanne Moran, hair stylist Clare Hannaford, and makeup by me. Not forgetting of course AWear clothing, where Elaine took inspiration from the Chanel catwalks and added her own creative twist.

Making the eyebrows - steady hand required!
For me it began a couple of weeks before the shoot. Elaine really liked the crazy glittery eyebrows that the Chanel models wore for the Autumn/Winter catwalk shows, so I had to get the thinking cap on, and create my own unique "eyebrows" and makeup look. So onto ebay to order lots of rhinestones I go! I chose gun-metal grey, black and multicoloured stones.

Fast forward to the day before the shoot, and here I am sticking rhinestones to muslin cloth with superglue and a tweezers, praying that they will fit Suzanne properly. I made a backup set just in case, but thankfully they fit perfectly!

Makeup-wise I chose a deep burgundy colour for the lips, and minimal eyemakeup - just mascara. I made Suzanne's pale skin even paler for an almost theatrical effect.I painted Suzanne's nails with Gosh metallic silver nail polish.

Changing lip colour before adding the lace mask
The other look I really wanted to do here was a masquerade inspired "black lace across the face", which I thought was also fitting to our theme. For this I bought some black lace knicker shorts (I kid you not!) in Penneys, and cut them up to size. Hair stylist Clare helped me out here by pinning the edges of the lace into Suzanne's hair, and the fluffing the hair over the edges for a seamless look.

I also changed the lip colour to a bright poppy red, which works well against the black and gold outfit.

For more images from this shoot, see my website or Facebook page.

For details on the clothes and accessories used, Elaine will be blogging about that shortly.

Thanks to AWear, Shaun Barry, Elaine Scully, Suzanne Moran and Clare Hannaford for making this a really fun shoot!

The Humming Bird takes flight to Boston

By Elaine Scully Styling

This weekend sees an exciting milestone for Irish designer Jennifer Rothwell. For the first time Irish fashion designs will be showcased at the Emerging Trends Boston Fashion Week 2012. Jennifer was extremely excited to receive her invitation to Boston. Americans have a strong connection and love of Ireland and Jennifer believes this will be a great platform to promote Irish fashion design internationally.

At Boston Fashion Week Jennifer will launch her new SS13 Humming Bird Silk Digital Print Line. The Humming Bird Digital Print was designed and developed under Jennifer’s direction in Dublin, Ireland and is exclusive to Jennifer Rothwell. Bold and adventurous whilst being vibrant and colourful the humming bird print displays dozens of birds flying in several directions in the bright cobalt blue sky. The main colours in the fabrication are cobalt blue, bright Windsorred orange and teal green. The bird itself consists of a beautiful array of colours, dark and pale teal colours are in the main body of the bird, the wingsare turquoise and royal blue while the tips of the wings are a vibrant bright Windsorred orange.

The stunning colour and print combinations are receiving a fantastic response here in Ireland. I believe the flattering fit of each piece is key to Jennifer's popularity amongst Irish women. I wish her the best of luck with her Boston showcase on Saturday 29th September.

Unruly Eyebrows - Quick Tip!!

by Anne Hutton Makeup & Beauty, Carlow.

I've been quiet here lately...my apologies, but rest assured I have some great posts coming up soon on shoots I've done.

But for now...
Here's a really quick and easy tip on how to tame those unruly eyebrows. No more annoying "sticky out" hairs!!
This is a little technique I have share with some clients, and one lady recently said to me that it's a godsend for her! So why not let you all know...

First Step: Tweeze away any untidy hairs, below the brow only. (or have your brows professionally shaped - only €8 with me!!)
Second Step: If there are any really long hairs sticking out, trim them (carefully!!)
Third Step: Fill in any gaps with a pencil or powder.

A well groomed eyebrow makes a big difference!

Fourth Step: the easy peasy secret tip I will now share with you ladies..... spray a little hairspray onto your brow-brush or a clean mascara wand (just clean an old one), and brush through your brows. They will stay in place and look nicely groomed. Alternatively you can invest in an eyebrow sculpting gel (such as Benefit Speedbrow) for a quick fix. This is handy as you can bring it in the handbag.

That's all for now.
Enjoy your new, tidier eyebrows!
