Style Crush........Fearne Cotton

This week Shauna and I have been gazing with fashionable envy at the coolest celeb style of Fearne Cotton. What’s great about Fearne’s style is its accessibility - she loves to shop the highstreet. You will often spot her wearing the same pieces regularly but each time worn differently – she knows how to wear her wardrobe getting value for money. When googling Fearne to source images for our blog I adored everyone I found but narrowed it down to two looks which are essential for your 2011 Spring/Summer wardrobe – Do it all Denim and Terrific Trousers.

To recreate Fearne's look untie the shirt and tuck into the below denim skirt - Lace panel denim shirt, Miss Selfridge
Chambray button down skirt,

Black lined blazer,

Black buckle wedge, Office
Vintage style soft leather satchel,

To recreate our second Fearne Cotton look, take the blazer, wedges and bag from look one and team with a simple black top and ............................
Beige cropped chino,

Pink animal print scarf,

No7 Stay Perfect Trio Eye shadow Renaissance 25, No7 Starfish Bronzing Powder, No7 Blush Tint Cream Blush 10 Clove, No7 Instant Radiance Foundation, No7 Stay Perfect Lipstick No 12 Angel Kiss (Last one on the right)

Re-Creating the Look
  1. Cleanse, tone and moisturize the skin.
  2. Apply a light coverage of foundation like - No7 Instant Radiance Foundation - and cover up any dark circles or blemishes with concealer.
  3. Apply some loose powder to set the base, then add some bronzer to the cheeks down the nose and across the forehead.
  4. Then apply peachy blush like - No7 Blush Tint Cream Blush 10 Clove - to the apples of the cheeks and blend for warmth.
  5. Apply an eyebrow pencil to the eyebrows filling in any gaps.
  6. On the eyes use the lightest colour in the No.7 Stay Perfect Trio Eye shadow Renaissance 25 over the entire eyelid then apply the darkest shade in the socket line blending well.
  7. Highlight the brow bone, inside corner of the eyes, over the cheekbones and the cupids bow with iridescent powder.
  8. Line the eyes with black liquid liner bringing it out to the edge creating a flick effect. Apply two coats of black mascara on the top and bottom lashes.
  9. Lastly apply a matte lipstick in a peachy shade like - No7 Stay Perfect Lipstick No 12 Angel - to the lips, liner is optional, blot then re apply.
Top Tips
  • If you apply balm to the lips, this will soften them while you are doing the rest of your makeup and will give you a base for your lip colour.
  • When applying eyeliner, it helps if you pull your eyelid taught so that the skin doesn’t ruffle creating a broken line. Draw the line in one direction and then go over it in the other direction. Eyeliner is usually applied after eye shadow and before mascara.

Buy of the Week.....Pastel Pieces

FASHION BUY..........Green lace jacket, €79, Darling

Pastel shades and whites are big colour trends for Spring/Summer 2011. With these hues in mind my must have buy of the week is this gorgeous jacket from a label called Darling, also hitting yet another trend - lace. Heading into our (fingers crossed) sunnier months filled with plenty of garden parties every girl should have something pretty and feminine in their wardrobe. I think this jacket is the ultimate girlie piece; soft lace, flattering sleeve length, waist definition, the perfect Mad Men addition. Darling is available in Carraig Donn who have 22 stores in Ireland - for locations go to For more details about Darling and to view their full collection visit

Styling Tips
  • Wear with denims and pastel wedges for a casual look
  • Team over your favourite shift dress giving the effect of a skirt and jacket
  • Keep the look girly and wear with a soft floral skirt
  • Smarten up for an office look with on-trend high waist tailored trousers that have a wide leg. Choose a plain style (no patterns or prints) in a neutral colour.
  • Experiment with different colour ribbons or belts around the waist to tie together different outfits.

BEAUTY BUY..........Max effect dip in eyeshadow, €7.99, Max Factor

Shauna’s buy of the week is Max Factor’s new range of eye shadows; they are called Max Effect Dip in Eye Shadow. They come in 8 different shades; vibrant turquoise, party lime, ultra violet, silver lounge, posh pink, Ibiza sunrise, bronzed glow and moody blue. They are easy to apply and have their own built in sponge tip applicator which is ideal for applying loose eye shadow powder. Colour is everywhere this season so these are a must have for your make up bag, if you want a vibrant flash of colour to make a bold statement this Spring/Summer.

Maximise the 70's Catwalk Look

If you love fashion from the 70’s - that is the more glamorous style rather than the hippy laid back look - then you’ll fall in love, like we have, with Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer RTW (ready-to-wear) 2011 collection. The colour palette is strong and fun with a very sexy feminine silhouette. The above image is from this collection and is a wonderful look for anyone who has a special event over the coming months. Obviously we don’t have the budgets for this particular dress so here’s how you can recreate this fab look on the highstreet.

Per Una flamenco maxi dress from M&S

Pink t-bar flower sandal from M&S

Alpna clutch from Accessorize

Tips for wearing the Maxi Dress
·         Choose a style that emphasises your waist, or create your own definition with a belt – avoiding the swallowed by a shapeless tent look
·         If accessorising with a belt; shorter ladies should choose a colour similar to the colour of the dress while tall ladies should wear a different colour belt to break up a long silhouette.
·         Cropped jackets and cardigans should be your only cover-up option to elongate your figure.
·         Bring heels with you when shopping for your dress to ensure you find the correct length.
·         Get wear from your dress after the event is over by teaming with more casual accessories, such as flat sandals, wooden tribal themed jewellery, a cropped denim jacket or this season’s on-trend waistcoat.

Main Features of the Catwalk Makeup Look

  1. Foundation - Natural and Powdered
  2. Eyebrows - Bleached - ok so we're not recommending this step but we said we'd include it just for fun
  3. Eyes - Smoky eye using metallic green eye shadow, black eyeliner and mascara
  4. Lips - Burgundy
  5. Cheeks - Creamy Pink blusher applied to the cheekbones
  6. Over all Look - The metallic eye shadow and striking lips is just one of the beauty trends seen on the catwalk this spring/summer 2011 and is easily recreated into everyday life by following these few easy steps.

Re-Creating the Look

  • Apply the bleach hair crème to the eyebrows. Always follow manufactures instructions, but normally you leave it on for 3-5 minutes but the longer you leave it, the lighter your hair will be and this look requires very light eyebrows. Wipe it off and then rinse with cool water. Note (If you don’t like the colour it turned out then use a brow pencil to darken them. Otherwise don’t worry your hair will grow out sooner than you think).
  • Cleanse, tone and moistures the skin.
  • Using a metallic green eye shadow apply to lid and blend to just above the socket line. Use a flat liner brush to then apply the eye shadow under the lower lash line.
  • Take your black eyeliner pencil and line both the top and bottom lash lines.
  • Apply two coats of black mascara to the top and bottom lashes.
  • Before applying the foundation use foundation primer first all over the skin.
  • Apply foundation to the face, match the natural skin tone, don’t rush the application as this is the most important part of any make up, apply concealer then where needed and set with a translucent powder.
  • Blusher is applied to the cheekbones and blended up towards the temples.
  • Choose a burgundy coloured lipstick and apply generously to the whole lip area using a lip brush. Blot with tissue paper then reapply.

Sally Hansen Fast and Gentle Crème Hair Bleach For Face kit
GOSH - Velvet Touch foundation primer
Gosh - 15 Bottle Green Eye shadow
Gosh - Velvet Touch Lipstick 136 Burgundy

Top Tips

When you're doing a strong eye look do your eye make up first before applying the foundation that way you can then clear up any fallen product easily and it won't ruin the rest of your make up. You should still apply foundation over the eye area before doing the make up.

Using a primer on the skin provides a base on which the rest of the make up can be built. It also smoothes out the surface of the skin and helps minimise open pores, lines and wrinkles. This is a must have for your make up bag.
