Get The Look : Nicole Richie

Image from www.fanpix.net

Nicole Richie’s look proves less really is more, she looks effortlessly beautiful. This look is an expression of self confidence. The aim is to give the complexion a healthy glow by using foundation and blusher that subtly enhances your natural skin tone rather than disguise it. This look is one of the hardest looks to achieve - you need careful choice of colour and a light skillful touch. Natural means enhancing your natural look with as little make up as possible, choose warm earthy neutral tones.

Essential Tools

Essence Stay All Day Foundation €3.99

Essence Silky Touch Blush €2.99

Essence Quattro Eye shadow set €3.49

Essence Stay with me Long Lasting Lip gloss in Me and My Ice Cream €2.49

Essence 2 in 1 Volume Mascara €3.79

Re-Creating the Look

Make sure your skin is really well moisturised. Use a primer to give the best base possible for your foundation to adhere to. Apply a light coverage of foundation like Essence Stay All Day Foundation, conceal problem areas and set with loose powder.

Dust the apples of your cheeks with a soft shade of blusher to create a healthy glow. Try using Essence Silky Touch Blush.

Use an eyeshadow brush to apply the lightest shade of eye shadow all over the lid. Then use a medium shade of shadow in the crease of the eye socket.. Try using Essence Quattro eye shadow sets.

Use a pencil eyeliner along the lash line as close to the lashes as possible placing emphasis on the outer corners.

Apply mascara such as Essence 2 in 1 Volume Mascara. Brush the eyebrows into shape and define if necessary with eyeshadow.

Define the lips with a neutral shadow of lip liner pencil and fill in with lipstick or apply some lip gloss. For a fresh soft and light finish apply Essence Stay with me Long Lasting Lip Gloss in Me and My Ice Cream.

Party Pieces

It's party season!!!!!!! Girls party season does not have to mean new party dress - I have gathered inspiring pics of some of my favourite party looks for winter 2011/12, all are built from stunning affordable high street party pieces. Building your christmas night-out look from separates can cost a little more than the single purchase of a dress, however with separates you have a multitude of options to recreate lots of different looks for all those nights out and dressy nights in. The key is to choose pieces that can be mixed with your existing wardrobe giving a new lease of life to your favourite go-to clothes for a glam night out. Not only will you have a new outfit for your work do, you'll also have new season trends to mix and match recreating looks for whatever events the christmas hols throw at you......drinks with friends, christmas day and new years eve.....

NeoStrata Beauty Regime

Hi ladies, I’ve been trying out two skincare products by NeoStrata. A facial cleanser and daytime protection cream with SPF 15. First let me start off by telling you a bit about NeoStrata - they are a fantastic skincare range that hail from the United States. The products have been developed by dermatologists in a bid to help combat the everyday harsh conditions our skin has to endure. Their products are clinically proven and are highly recommended and regarded by skincare experts around the globe.

NeoStrata Facial Cleanser €23

The cleanser is oil, alkaline and soap free which means it is gentle on the skin. The main aim of the cleanser is to gently cleanse the skin without stripping it of its natural essential oils. This cleanser makes light work of lifting off your makeup and any impurities. Massage into the skin and leave for a few seconds to dissolve the impurities, then rinse off with water. The water will help soothe and hydrate your skin. Cleansing is so important if you want your skin to look and feel great. Nothing beats that freshly washed feeling. The cleanser will leave your skin supple and fresh without any clogged pores. Try using it with a facial cleansing brush this will allow you to exfoliate and cleanse all in one go.

NeoStrata Daytime Protection Cream SPF 15 €40

The moisturiser is lightweight, anti-ageing, antioxidant moisturiser designed to prevent and correct signs of ageing while providing sun protection. This moisturiser comes in a squeezable bottle so its perfect because repeatedly sticking you fingers into a tub of moisturiser can cause bacteria to grow in it. This is far more hygienic. With the moisturiser just simply massage into the skin twice daily, massaging it into your face will increase circulation and make your skin more receptive to the product. No beauty cabinet is complete without a good moisturiser and this is excellent. It evens out your skin tone and contains SPF 15 to protect against harmful rays. It’s easily absorbed into the skin and it doesn’t leave a greasy feeling. Your skin just feels velvety smooth and deeply nourished. You’ll have a clear, glowing healthy complexion.

I found using both these products together, my skin was in better condition, it was brighter and energised and I had fewer blemishes. These products tick all the boxes for me. The formulations are enriched with antioxidants, AHA’s and UVA and UVB protection what’s not to love and when my skin looks fab that’s exactly how I feel.

It’s never too late to start taking care of your skin. The earlier you start the better your skin will be in the long run. You need to have a beauty regime and look after your skin everyday and with NeoStrata products they can help you on your way to great looking skin. Everyone wants luminous and gorgeously fresh skin and that’s what you’ll get with NeoStrata products. So now there’s nothing stopping you looking your best.

Their products are available in pharmacies nationwide, to learn more or for a full range of  their products go to: http://www.neostrata.ie/

Styling in the Rain

What a totally miserable day, I absolutely detest rain, particularly when coupled with stormy gusts of wind - impossible to stay dry - my hair is a mess aarg. Thankfully I'm now home in the dry indoors and thought it appropriate to have another drool over my favourite rain mac of this season. It's the amazing cape detail that I love the most, coming a close second is the rich forest green hue. I'm not one for being prepared for the weather and don't own a sensible hooded raincoat, but if I did this is the one:

DRESSMONSTER Sherlock cape mac in forest green, WAS €234.81 - NOW €117.41, ASOS.com

You are more likely to see me wearing something similar to this mac from Littlewoods. The skirt detail on this coat is perfect for adding curves to a straight up and down figure. It would look equally fab on a top heavy shape as the volumn on the lower half balances broad shoulders or busty figures.

South DB Mac with full skirt, €72, Littlewoods Ireland (also available in black)

Look what I've found, just the thing for giving your dreary weather loving wellies or boots a touch of stylish fun, check these out;

Faux Fur Boot Cuffs €4 Penneys

Brown cable knit feather boot cuff sock, stg£13, River Island

And while broosing RI's site I stumbled upon these absolutely adorable gloves, what a fabulous way to add a touch of glamour to a cosy winter look. Multi textures are a big catwalk trend this season particulary when it comes to outerwear; mixing wool, leather, tweed, fur etc.

Black ribbed gloves, stg£28, River Island

It's too wild out at the moment to protect your hair with an umbrella but I do love this one from http://www.asos.com/ it says it all......

HIT Christoper Shannon Umbrella, €52.18, ASOS.com

Don't let the weather put a stop on your style!

Getting The Right Colour Concealer

How to choose your concealer
Blemishes and scars : match the colour of your skin tone exactly

Raised Spots : try using a slightly darker colour than the skin tone to make the spot recede, anything lighter will highlight the spot

Under eye shadows: match the skin tone or go half a shade lighter

Set the concealer with a yellow based pressed powder as pink tones emphasise redness. This will also guarantee a longer lasting coverage.

Types of Concealer Products
Cream concealer- gives light to medium coverage, hides dark circles, spots and evens out blotchiness

Liquid concealer - gives light sheer coverage, conceals dark shadows and redness around the eyes and nose.

Stick concealer - gives full coverage disguises redness on the cheeks, chin and nose, hides indented scars.

Pencil concealer - gives medium to full coverage, disguises small blemishes.

Light Diffusing liquid concealer - gives translucent coverage that reflects light away, brightens shadows under the eyes and blurs the appearance of wrinkles.

Medicated concealer - gives medium to full coverage, covers spots and treats them at the same time.

Essence stay all day long lasting concealer 16hr €2.99

Catrice Light Reflective concealer €4.49
Top Tips
- Always apply your foundation first, then your concealer, otherwise you will move it away when applying your foundation.

- Concealer is used to lighten around the eyes, whereas on the rest of the face it's used to hide blemishes and imperfections. If you use the same product for both, then blemishes can end up looking lighter rather than concealed.

What do you think of my Photoshoot for Fairgreen Shopping Centre?

I am over the moon to be teaming up with Fairgreen Shopping Centre Carlow to offer a new personal shopping service for their customers. We will be launching this service on 12th November when one lucky winner will receive a complete makeover!! So watch out for me instore over the next few weeks where I'll be handing out competition entry forms and info on this new service.

To promote my new role I had a photoshoot on location with photographer Kath Oniszk. I was a little nervous as I'm not comfortable in front of the camera and am so fussy that I'm never happy with how I look - basically I don't like pics of myself. When I met Kath on the day of the shoot we both hit it off straight away which meant I instantly relaxed. I still can't believe how much fun I had. Kath arrived prepared with amazing ideas of what shots we should take. She made me feel so at ease and directed me as to what way to stand, sit, walk, pose, smile etc.. and I LOVE the shots she produced. So much so we plan to shoot again to create some promotional pics of me for my website

And now, for once, I proudly post pics of ME..........what do you think?

As I type this, pop-up stands are being produced using two of the shots and will be on display in the centre! It's a good thing I'm so pleased with the images as I will be seeing a lot more of them. My mortified sons have already informed me that they will never be able to go to Fairgreen again. Well, I consider that a job well done......afterall a parents key role in life is to embarass their kids ;) - I've probably done it again, sorry boys.

Prime and Fine

My buy of the week is Catrice’s Prime and Fine Smoothing Refiner for invisible pores and wrinkles, €5.49

It’s an ideal base for an even foundation application as it smoothes out the surface of the skin and helps minimise open pore, lines and wrinkles. The primer is applied to cleansed skin prior to the application of foundation. THIS IS A BEAUTY MUST HAVE!!! If your skin is extremely dry, oily, dull or uneven a primer can make it look fresher, cleaner and more youthful. The primer works by forming a barrier that stops skin losing its moisture, it creates a smooth even canvas for foundation to glide over and it extends the life of your make up.

Denim Rocks

I'm a rock chick at heart (although my style doesn't really reflect that, unless of course I'm at a gig) and in a different life I could have been a diehard groupie for Pearl Jam.....or maybe Metallica.....or even Faith No More. So when the new ad campaign for Pepe Jeans London caught my eye in my inbox this week - the theme of the campaign is to give an insight into the secret lives of rock stars - I knew I had to share the images. Plus it's always good to get some new inspiration on how to wear denim, afterall we do wear it alot!

......................oh how I'd love to be planning a gig outfit right now.

Have a great weekend guys!!!

Derek Lam's Cat Eyes

www.style.com

This look was seen at Derek Lam’s Ready-to-Wear Fall 2011 Catwalk Show. With the metallic eye and heavy brows that were used, this is not day make up. But yet it is casual, sophisticated, feminine and minimal without being boring.

www.style.com

You want flawless matte skin, the eyes are minimal but slightly severe using metallic silver and charcoal. The brows are filled in with a brow pencil to really emphasise them. The cheeks are contoured slightly with a few sweeps of bronzer, while the pout is toned down using a peachy beige matte lipstick. A nude lip will make the eyes pop even more.

Essential Tools
CATRICE Matt Mousse Foundation €5.49
CATRICE Eyebrow Stylist Pencil, €2.99

CATRICE Made to Stay Long Lasting Eyeshadow 030, €3.99
CATRICE Made to Stay Long Lasting Eyeshadow  010, €3.99

CATRICE Evolution to revolution Mascara, €4.99

CATRICE Multi Colour Blush 040, €4.49

CATRICE Ultimate Colour - Go Nudes, €4.99
Re-Creating the Look using Catrice Cosmetics

> Cleanse, tone and moisturize the skin.

> Before applying your foundation use a primer on the skin first.
> Apply Catrice’s Foundation and set with loose powder.

> Sweep a few strokes of Catrice’s Multi Colour Blush set opting for the darker colours.

> To really emphasise and define the brows use Catrice’s Brow Styling Pencil.

> Apply Catrice’s Made to Stay Long Lasting Eye Shadow in 010 first, apply all over the whole lid. Then take Catrice’s Made to Stay Long Lasting Eye Shadow in 030 and draw in a triangle shape on the outer corner of the eye lid, bringing it out just beyond the eyelid to give that dramatic cat eye look. Once the shape has been defined, fill in with the darker coloured eye shadow. Blend to take away the hard third edge, but retain an obvious triangle shape.

> Apply two coats of Evolution to Revolution Mascara in black to the top and bottom lashes.

> Using Catrice’s apply generously to the whole lip area using a lip brush.

Perk Up at the Ploughing

This years National Ploughing Championship is taking place tomorrow Tuesday 20th September 2011 and running until Thursday 22nd September 2011. The location is Fennin Farm, Stradbally Road, Athy, Co Kildare.

The reason I mention this event is to point out a very important stand.......The Bra Doctors......aka MarieSue Lingerie. They are a fab lingerie shop from my local town Carlow and can be found from tomorrow at the Carlow Enterprise Tent Block 4 Stand 301 with promises of lots of freebies :0

From hosting our Style & Beauty Parties we have realised that many ladies are STILL wearing the incorrect bra size. Whatever size your boobs are they deserve to be perked up proudly. Lying beneath your boobs could be the slimmest part of your body so ensure they stand to attention in the correct bra giving you a more feminine slimmer silhouette. An expertly fitted bra is also a more comfortable bra. So get your wellies on girls we're off to the ploughing championships for a must have perk me up.
